Food from Lapland’s Nature - Guided mushroom and berry picking

Duration: 3 hours / Difficulty: Easy

Guided 3 hour hike takes you to Lapland’s forests and meadows. There are perfect spots around Tankavaara area to pick mushrooms and berries. During the trip our guide will teach you how to recognise edible mushrooms and berries. Halfway we will stop at a cozy campfire spot where our guide will prepare traditional campfire coffee to enjoy.

Lapland’s golden berry cloudberry grows from Mid-July to August and is collectable only a short period of time. Blueberry season starts at the same time and continues until September. Latest berry is lingonberry which you can pick from the end of August till early October! The best mushroom season is from August until September-October and one of the delicious mushrooms from Tankavaara area is Porcino mushroom!

We will walk in forest and meadow areas so you should prepare yourself with outdoor clothing and waterproof boots. Take a basket or bucket also with you to collect the treasures from the earth! We can’t guarantee that you’ll find specific mushrooms or berries since, for example, the cloudberry harvest differs from year to year. But you will find some berries and mushrooms for sure while enjoying the beautiful nature!

The trip will start in Tankavaara Wild Center where you can park your car. We will return to the same place. Restaurant Old Gold Prospector serves within walking distance and is open daily. It is also possible to drive there by car.
